1. General principle 
As a general principle, Stats SA does not seek to recover any of the costs of data collected, products developed or standard services provided, as those costs are met from an allocation voted by Parliament.

2. Exceptions
To avoid misuse and waste, a nominal charge for data or products disseminated on compact disk, stiffy diskette, or in paper format may be levied in terms of section 7 (3) (d) of the Statistics Act, No. 6 of 1999.
